This qualification
is a requirement by most commercial vessel operators as detailed within each vessels survey record book, ie. crewing and manning
requirements.
- The
applicant must obtain a NSW Record of Service Book or (R.O.P.E.S) and complete the applicable General Purpose Hand Section.
- Obtain
an application for Recognition as a General Purpose Hand from your nearest NSW Maritime office.
- Complete
an application for Recognition as a General Purpose Hand from your nearest NSW
Maritime office.
- Complete
an eyesight/medical assessment. Use current NSW Maritime medical form. This can be obtained from their website.
- Provide
‘proof’ of age and personal identification.
- Obtain
2 x colour passport photographs (1 for your record of service book)
- Complete
a First Aid Certificate
- Provide
evidence that you have successfully completed a NSW Maritime recognised training program consisting of at least the following
units of competency:-

Maritime and Safety
Training NSW conducts this program throughout the year at regular intervals throughout
regional New South Wales.
The
fully certificated GPH course takes 3 days to fully complete.
Subsidised cost
$180 including all student resource materials.
Non-Subsidised
cost $375 including all student resource materials.

NSW Maritime approved Sea time or Qualifying
Service is required in each case for the following Maritime qualifications. In some cases this may be substantially reduced

· Complete the relevant sections of a R.O.P.E.S – Record of Practical Experience & Sea Service Book.
· Attend a NSW Maritime approved training course.

- All service to be on vessels 5 meters or more in length and 75% on vessels over 6 meters.

Assessment tasks are conducted
during class time throughout
your course

Classes are full-time Monday - Friday (5 days per week)
8.30am start.
Refer to daily timetable. There may be a Weekend
class for Liferaft/Fire and or practical vessel handling
Radio - A separate cheque or money order made payable to the
Australian Maritime College for $48.20.
Two current colour passport sized photos are required for issue
of short course Certificates.

This is a dual qualification enabling the holder to act as master
and/or engineer on vessels less than 12 meters in length and with
