This qualification is a requirement by most commercial vessel operators as detailed within each vessels survey record book, ie. crewing and manning requirements.

  • The applicant must obtain a NSW Record of Service Book or (R.O.P.E.S) and complete the applicable General Purpose Hand Section.
  • Obtain an application for Recognition as a General Purpose Hand from your nearest NSW Maritime office.
  • Complete an  application for Recognition as a General Purpose Hand from your nearest NSW Maritime office.
  • Complete an eyesight/medical assessment. Use current NSW Maritime medical form. This can be obtained from their website.
  • Provide ‘proof’ of age and personal identification.
  • Obtain 2 x colour passport photographs (1 for your record of service book)
  • Complete a First Aid Certificate
  • Provide evidence that you have successfully completed a NSW Maritime recognised training program consisting of at least the following units of competency:-

Maritime and Safety Training NSW  conducts this program throughout the year at regular intervals throughout regional New South Wales.

 

The fully certificated GPH course takes 3 days to fully complete.

Subsidised cost $180 including all student resource materials.

This qualification entitles the holder to engage in the operations and servicing of diesel inboard engines to a maximum of 500kW within 15 nautical miles from the coast or 250 kW up to 100 nautical miles from the coast

 

  • The applicant must obtain a NSW Record of Service Book or (R.O.P.E.S) and complete the relevant MED 3  Section.
  • Obtain and complete an application for Marine Certification from your nearest NSW Maritime office or online

(Fire fighting and life raft survival) also known as Occupational Health and Safety at Sea:

 

This is a requirement of ALL qualification holders and is normally included within GPH,Coxswain,MC5/SK3 and MED3 training courses.

When it is required separately, duration 3 days and cost $375 ($180 subsidised).

Certificate of Proficiency (MROCP)

 

Masters of Commercial Vessels are required to hold a valid marine radio operators certificate. Normally included as part of existing courses i.e. Coxswain,MC5/SK3.

This can also be offered as a stand alone course eg.

2 day instructional course including examination.

Cost  $150 and a once only cost of $48.20 for your Licence. (This cost is subject to change

These and other M.A.S.T. NSW  programs are conducted throughout the year at regular intervals throughout regional New South Wales and Sydney metro areas.
